Styling Your Basic White Tee

"Real style is never right or wrong. It's a matter of being yourself on purpose" - G Bruce Boyer

You're probably beginning to think that I love the color white. I don't! The conscious effort to not soil it is a burden that I'm never ready to carry. Also, for some reason, my face powder stains every surface I come in contact with; my phone, bae's shirt, my handbag even. It's ridiculous. Ahn, ahn, am I the only one that wears brown powder?

However, a basic white tee is a wardrobe essential and I'm not about to give it up for the fear of a little stain here and there.

For something seemingly so simple, the basic white tee is quite a hassle to style. There's the risk of having a very dull outfit or going so overboard it is drowned by a mass of colors and patterns. The trick is to find the balance.

Here are a range of styles to rock this versatile piece of clothing;

Here, I paired my basic white tee with pencil jeans, sandals and a fedora hat to give it a playful allure.
I'm however not quite sure of where you can wear this to.

Nothing says androgyny more than a pair of boyfriend jeans and suspenders (which i really did need because frankly, my jeans seemed to have a thing against staying on my waist).
I'm also not sure I know where you can wear this to.

For a more put-together look inspired by the American preppy style, I decided to pair my white tee with Ankara cropped shorts (previously styled here) underneath a sleeveless blazer. Finished the look off with a pair of black sandals to achieve a summery classic look.
This ensemble would be perfect for brunch dates, movies and any other outdoor activities

For the last look here, I paired my white tee with a midi-length pencil skirt and a kente head wrap to give it a tribal feel.
Still not sure of where you can wear this to.

Would you be buying a basic white tee? The following tips will help you ensure that it's a right fit.

  • Make sure it's long enough to be tucked-in comfortably but not so long that there's a lot of bunching.
  • Ensure that the sleeves aren't longer that your elbow.
  • It shouldn't be too loose or too tight. If you can see every detail of your stomach, it's too tight. If you can't even see the shape of your body, it's too loose.

1, 2, Ways To Style Your White Button-down Shirt

"Fashion is not necessarily about labels or brands. It's about something else that comes from within you" - Ralph Lauren
I feel the need to apologize in advance for the number of Ankara outfits that you'll find here. After garri (well, any form of swallow really) and soup, my next favorite thing is Ankara, closely followed by retro prints.
In this post, we're styling a basic white button-down shirt in two refreshing ways.
Now, a white button-down shirt is a wardrobe essential. Like a little black dress or a pair of very flattering jeeans, it is a fashion must-have.
It is chic through all seasons, for all ages and it works for about just every event.
For the first look, I tucked my white button-down shirt into an Ankara pencil, midi length skirt for a tailored appeal.
This simple ensemble can work for the office on a Monday or a Friday as the case may be.
Aiming for a more casual feel in the second look, I decided to pair my white button-down shirt with a pair of…

3, 4 Ways To Style Your White Button-down Shirt

"Elegance is not standing out but being remembered"- Giorgio Armani
Because 1, 2 Ways To Style Your White Button-down Shirt was such a favorite, we're back with another one!
It can not be over emphasized. A white button-down shirt is the real deal. Its tailored shape brings elegance to both casual and formal ensembles alike.
There really aren't a lot of wardrobe essentials that we lean on more than this statement piece. I know I said that about the basic white tee and maybe a couple of other fashion items, but stay with me here. Okay?
This time I decided to take it up a notch (or I'd like to think that's what I did).
In the first look which is my favorite of the two, I have on an Ankara pinafore over my white button-down shirt. This had me reminiscing on my secondary school days  Funny enough, I couldn't wait to graduate from Junior Secondary just so I could get out of wearing pinafores. Now they're stylish. Yay! Fashion.

For the second look which is…

Dressing Appropriately for Your Body Type

"The dress should follow the body of a woman, not the body following the shape of the dress" - Hubert de Givenchy
Hello everyone! Long time no see. I'm sorry, life has been, well, life.
Over the months, I've gotten E-mails with questions in the line of "Oh this looks so good, do you think it would look good on me too". Then, there's my friend and flat mate Ehimen who doesn't wear any colors except black because she thinks they''ll make her look big. I thought about these and I decided to put together a little guide to help you dress appropriately for your body type.
Now, essentially, there are four body types; the hour glass, the apple, the banana and the pear.

THE HOURGLASS You know you're hourglass when you're extremely curvy with a tiny waist.
Work towards highlighting your curves and not hiding them. You can achieve this via belts.
For bottoms, wear a lot of pencil skirts and wide-legged pants.

Wrap dresses are perfect.
For tops, …
