Monochromes - Again

My 7 Favorite Books of 2017

Hi all!
I have finally decided to share with you a part of me that I have teased at for quite a while.
When I'm not pairing outfits in my head, I most likely have my nose stuck in a book or my kindle.
Going forward, I intend to set up a structure of weekly book discussions (not reviews) but for today, I'm introducing this column with my 7 favorite reads of 2017!
Why 7? It's definitely not because 7 is my lucky number but because I frankly didn't think any of the other 34 books were worthy enough to make it a ballpark figure.
These are not book reviews and they are definitely not recommendations.

1. Diaries of a Dead African by Chuma Nwokolo - It is only natural that this is the first book on my list this year. A friend sent me this when I lost my dad. I was too upset at the time to read anything but I feel entirely in love with it the moment I did.
It tells the story of Meme Jumai a struggling farmer and his two sons: Abel a failed writer and Calamatus an aspriring con…

Striped! Take 2!

Hi all!

At this point, even I am ashamed of apologizing for long absences. I read a tweet the other day saying "are you really a blogger if you don't open every post with ...I'm sorry I've been away..." I found it funny and sad at the same time. I'm sure you can imagine why.

I'll be honest anyway. It's a struggle to curate content when it seems like your reach is dwindling everyday. Sharing and publicizing posts is frankly my biggest challenge with blogging.
There's only so much "Please Read and Rt/Share" that you can send out without feeling like a bother to friends and family.

I've come to understand however that it won't get easier so I might as well suck it up and get my hands dirty.
On that note, I'd like to sincerely thank you all for sticking with me through this journey. For checking in even when you're not quite sure that you're going to find something new. For engaging with me in the comment section and on …

Pleats Please?

Hi everyone!

Is that an eye roll I see for yet another pleat post? It better not be! Pleats are amazing and I did warn you that there will be more to come. So, we are just getting started. Sit back, relax and let me overload you with pleated skirts. Lol.

I'd just like to take a moment to say thanks for all the love on my previous post. Also, I will be announcing the winner of the TNL Barbie Satin Cargo pants, so do keep reading.
I have actually had this skirt for quite a while now but never really got around to wearing it. I think I am finally coming to terms with the fact that I might be a hoarder when it comes to clothes. I just sit on them until I am genuinely convinced that the occasion deserves the slay.

That my dears, is the story of this skirt that has been in my wardrobe for more than half a year now.
For this post, I styled my metallic pleat skirt with a slip dress which I previously styled here. I added a pair of red sandals to finish up a dainty…

Athleisure X Giveaway

Hi everyone!

I've been away for what! Two months? Sincere apologies. I needed to take a break to house hunt and then move houses. Clearly, I underestimated how time consuming that would be, especially with work on the other hand.
Also, I got robbed. If you're friends with me on Facebook, then you probably already know this.
In summary, I thought I was a bad guy. But, I'm not. Some riff raff was able to collect my phones and laptop with a small knife and I didn't have the heart to call his bluff. Admittedly, he did have a knife. So, Robber, 1, Tee 0. Till next time.

I'm back now. I hope. Lol! And I come bearing a bribe gift. Issa giveawayyyyyyyy! So stay with me.
The atheleisure trend has been around for a while and it's one trend that has come to grow on me. I remember seeing it some time back and wondering what the heck these fashion enthusiasts are always up to.

But, look at me now! I guess I should have known I would come to fall in love with it. I love eve…

"You can have anything you want if you dress for it" - Edith Head

Hi guys! Happy New Month... Did you have a good July? I'm mighty glad the year is coming to an end. For no reason particularly, I'm just ready for a fresh start.

So, let's kick off August with a little lesson on Black and White. Shall we?

The simplicity of monochromatic outfits is very refreshing to say the least. Whether black and white or varying tones of the same color, the result is always the same. Classic!

While wearing prints, patterns and colors will keep your outfit interesting, wearing different shades of a single color is a very simple and clean approach to putting an outfit together. The result is often times just as striking and bold.

Now, I've never been a fan of monochromatic outfits but it is an area of fashion I definitely plan to delve into. So, stay with me, people!.
For this post, I styled my black midi ruffled skirt (made by yours truly) with a white ruffled sleeve blouse …

Tee's (Not So) Instant Guide to Finding Your Personal Style II

Well, I did promise that this would come in good time. So, yes, I'd like a cookie. Thank you!
I'll try to keep this one short. If you read the prequel, here, I'd like to think that you found a style template that describes you. If you didn't, don't panic. That's why we're here.
Style is personal. When you think about it, there really are no rules. It is not about trying to be like someone else; taller or curvier or any of that. It is simply taking all that you have and portraying it in the best possible light.
I know this is a lot more daunting than I have made it sound so here are a few ways to actually define your personal style and well, keep it refreshing.

Understand Your Body; Absolutely important. So important that I dedicated an entire post to it here. Understanding your body and dressing for body type is a tenet that we absolutely cannot compromise on. You want to know what your best and worst features are so you can dress to accentuate or camouflag…

Tee's (Not So) Instant Guide To Finding Your Personal Style 1

Hi every one! Doing good? I usually get a lot of questions and comments like "Oh Tee, you have your style figured out. How do I create my own signature look?"
After thinking and thinking ( Read as researching and researching some more), I've put together an instant style guide to help you come into your own fashionably.
This is going to be a two-part post. This one is going to focus on eight style templates. I've compiled them in such a way that everyone should belong to at least one group. The plan is to help you identify your current style because, frankly, everyone already has a personal style.
The second post which will come up same time, next week, (I promise. Don't roll your eyes) will help you dress in a way that is peculiar to your personal style.
It's going to be a pretty long post, but hey! this took me weeks to write so stay with me.
Vintage; Vintage fashion is basically a combination of fashion from the 20s to the 70s. If you find yourself very in…

Taking Stock X MayRush

Hi everyone! Slowly but surely we've come to the end of the first half of 2017.
How are ya'll doing with those resolutions eh? So far, so good?

I decided to start this segment called "Taking Stock" which will itemize a few things (under simple headings) which I have been up to during the course of the month. The plan is to share it at the end of every month and also double it as a style post.
I hope you will enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy writing it.
So, currently, I am;
Wearing; A lot of Ankara. But then again, aren't I always! I love how surprised people get when they see how versatile Ankara can be.

Reading; An Abundance of Katherines by John Green, 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher and The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah. Usually, I start a number of books and switch between them depending on my mood.
Eating; A lot of Pounded yam and Egusi soup. As usual! Also eating a lot of Nkataa's peppered local chicken. Hopefully it doesn't tear whatever few teeth I h…
