The Slip Dress (Night to Day)

"Fashion should be a form of escapism not a form of imprisonment" - Alexander McQueen

I don't know which fashionista made wearing bed/night wear as an outer garment cool, but I'm thankful to you sister! I'm all here for anything at all that is pro-comfortable fashion.

The slip dress, (a very welcome throwback to the 70s and 90s) is slinky and very sexy. My style is not exactly sexy as you might have noticed by now, but variety is the spice of life. Eh?

This is definitely one of my favorite trends of 2016 and I hope it stays through the better part of 2017.

In this post, I tried to channel my inner Riri (I'm not sure you guys know, but I absolutely adore Rihanna. Can you blame me? The girl is perfect!) by transforming what would otherwise be a night wear into a funky day wear.

For the first look, I dressed-up my slip dress with a pair of black heels. Naturally, I'd campaign for a lot of accessories to bring out this look: a distinct necklace or choker, bracelets and a pair of statement earrings, but I think the only accessories I own are a pair of earrings my mom gave me.

This look would be perfect for a dinner date or a fun night out with friends.

For the second look, I decided to ditch my black heels for a pair of Adidas sneakers.

I threw on my Retrocode denim shirt which I previously styled here, as an afterthought.

The aim was to achieve a very casual and relaxed feel.

So on a scale of 1- Rihanna, how well did i style these looks?

Now, as glamorous as they may seem, slip dresses tend to look exactly like negligees so be careful to style it in such a way that you don't look like you just rolled out of bed.

Other ways to style a slip dress would include;

  • Layering it over a basic T-shirt
  • Layering it over a a structured button-down shirt
  • Pairing it with duster jackets, bomber jackets, varsity jackets, kimonos and coats.
Don't you just love the versatility of the slip dress!

Which look was your favorite? Don't go without leaving us a comment.

1, 2, Ways To Style Your White Button-down Shirt

"Fashion is not necessarily about labels or brands. It's about something else that comes from within you" - Ralph Lauren
I feel the need to apologize in advance for the number of Ankara outfits that you'll find here. After garri (well, any form of swallow really) and soup, my next favorite thing is Ankara, closely followed by retro prints.
In this post, we're styling a basic white button-down shirt in two refreshing ways.
Now, a white button-down shirt is a wardrobe essential. Like a little black dress or a pair of very flattering jeeans, it is a fashion must-have.
It is chic through all seasons, for all ages and it works for about just every event.
For the first look, I tucked my white button-down shirt into an Ankara pencil, midi length skirt for a tailored appeal.
This simple ensemble can work for the office on a Monday or a Friday as the case may be.
Aiming for a more casual feel in the second look, I decided to pair my white button-down shirt with a pair of…

3, 4 Ways To Style Your White Button-down Shirt

"Elegance is not standing out but being remembered"- Giorgio Armani
Because 1, 2 Ways To Style Your White Button-down Shirt was such a favorite, we're back with another one!
It can not be over emphasized. A white button-down shirt is the real deal. Its tailored shape brings elegance to both casual and formal ensembles alike.
There really aren't a lot of wardrobe essentials that we lean on more than this statement piece. I know I said that about the basic white tee and maybe a couple of other fashion items, but stay with me here. Okay?
This time I decided to take it up a notch (or I'd like to think that's what I did).
In the first look which is my favorite of the two, I have on an Ankara pinafore over my white button-down shirt. This had me reminiscing on my secondary school days  Funny enough, I couldn't wait to graduate from Junior Secondary just so I could get out of wearing pinafores. Now they're stylish. Yay! Fashion.

For the second look which is…

Dressing Appropriately for Your Body Type

"The dress should follow the body of a woman, not the body following the shape of the dress" - Hubert de Givenchy
Hello everyone! Long time no see. I'm sorry, life has been, well, life.
Over the months, I've gotten E-mails with questions in the line of "Oh this looks so good, do you think it would look good on me too". Then, there's my friend and flat mate Ehimen who doesn't wear any colors except black because she thinks they''ll make her look big. I thought about these and I decided to put together a little guide to help you dress appropriately for your body type.
Now, essentially, there are four body types; the hour glass, the apple, the banana and the pear.

THE HOURGLASS You know you're hourglass when you're extremely curvy with a tiny waist.
Work towards highlighting your curves and not hiding them. You can achieve this via belts.
For bottoms, wear a lot of pencil skirts and wide-legged pants.

Wrap dresses are perfect.
For tops, …
