Tee's (Not So) Instant Guide To Finding Your Personal Style 1

Hi every one! Doing good? I usually get a lot of questions and comments like "Oh Tee, you have your style figured out. How do I create my own signature look?"

After thinking and thinking ( Read as researching and researching some more), I've put together an instant style guide to help you come into your own fashionably.

This is going to be a two-part post. This one is going to focus on eight style templates. I've compiled them in such a way that everyone should belong to at least one group. The plan is to help you identify your current style because, frankly, everyone already has a personal style.

The second post which will come up same time, next week, (I promise. Don't roll your eyes) will help you dress in a way that is peculiar to your personal style.

It's going to be a pretty long post, but hey! this took me weeks to write so stay with me.

Vintage; Vintage fashion is basically a combination of fashion from the 20s to the 70s. If you find yourself very into prints, polka dots, florals, laces, pleats, A-line/flare cuts, cardigans, berets and the like, then you know you have an old soul. Think more of Beyonce's street style.

Bohemian; You're definitely Boho if your style inspiration is any one of the Olsen twins, If you own any of the following - printed maxi dresses, gladiator sandals, a fringe cross -body bag, a floppy hat, flared jeans, denim cut-offs, feather earrings and every style of boots imaginable, there's your answer.

Chic: I like to think that chic is synonymous with clean cuts. If your outfits include a lot of tailored and structured jackets and blazers, tapered pants, elaborate coats, then you're definitely chic. Think Victoria Beckham. Maybe Rihanna when she hasn't had too much to drink.

Sexy; Plunging necklines, thigh-high slits, mini and micro-mini skirts, body con dresses, Jennifer Lopez, Kim Kardashian... You see where I'm going. Eh?

Casual; This is most likely where you would find me. I'm very pro-comfortable fashion. I cannot come and go and kill myself. The typical casual girl would often be in T-shirts, boyfriend jeans, duster jackets, over-sized shirts, shift dresses, sneakers and not-so-high heels. It's a combination of elegance and comfort. Probably Kristen Stewart

Tom Boy; If you absolutely cannot be bothered with dresses and heels; If you do not subscribe tot the typical feminine ensembles, then this is you right here. You're most likely drawn to black rather than pink; baggy clothing over form-fitting dresses; high tops and sneakers over heels. Or maybe even barefoot. Yhup, Kristen Stewart again.

Preppy; I'm not sure that someone's entire style can be preppy. Maybe once in a while? However, A-line skirts with cardigans laid over button-down shirts, girly blouses and geeky glasses are the typical preppy looks. Think Taylor Swift and Blair Waldorf from Gossip Girl.

Gothic/Rocky; Lat but not least is the Gothic/rocky style which majorly involves a lot of leather pants and jackets, hoodies and vintage T-shirts as well as very black lip and eye liners. I don't know how you want to do this one in Nigeria sha.

So, did you enjoy this post? Did you find a category where you belong or do you belong to more than one? Share your thoughts with us in the comment section and don't forget to check in next week for a follow up post.

Until Next Time,
It's Tee

  11. Just seeing this, beautiful post. I'm chic ( VB or as my sister would say, Bree VanDeKamp!) when I'm formal, and totally casual every other time. I think there's some preppy styles for the chic category too, I know I do a cross sometimes and it still screams VB.

1, 2, Ways To Style Your White Button-down Shirt

"Fashion is not necessarily about labels or brands. It's about something else that comes from within you" - Ralph Lauren
I feel the need to apologize in advance for the number of Ankara outfits that you'll find here. After garri (well, any form of swallow really) and soup, my next favorite thing is Ankara, closely followed by retro prints.
In this post, we're styling a basic white button-down shirt in two refreshing ways.
Now, a white button-down shirt is a wardrobe essential. Like a little black dress or a pair of very flattering jeeans, it is a fashion must-have.
It is chic through all seasons, for all ages and it works for about just every event.
For the first look, I tucked my white button-down shirt into an Ankara pencil, midi length skirt for a tailored appeal.
This simple ensemble can work for the office on a Monday or a Friday as the case may be.
Aiming for a more casual feel in the second look, I decided to pair my white button-down shirt with a pair of…

Dressing Appropriately for Your Body Type

"The dress should follow the body of a woman, not the body following the shape of the dress" - Hubert de Givenchy
Hello everyone! Long time no see. I'm sorry, life has been, well, life.
Over the months, I've gotten E-mails with questions in the line of "Oh this looks so good, do you think it would look good on me too". Then, there's my friend and flat mate Ehimen who doesn't wear any colors except black because she thinks they''ll make her look big. I thought about these and I decided to put together a little guide to help you dress appropriately for your body type.
Now, essentially, there are four body types; the hour glass, the apple, the banana and the pear.

THE HOURGLASS You know you're hourglass when you're extremely curvy with a tiny waist.
Work towards highlighting your curves and not hiding them. You can achieve this via belts.
For bottoms, wear a lot of pencil skirts and wide-legged pants.

Wrap dresses are perfect.
For tops, …

3, 4 Ways To Style Your White Button-down Shirt

"Elegance is not standing out but being remembered"- Giorgio Armani
Because 1, 2 Ways To Style Your White Button-down Shirt was such a favorite, we're back with another one!
It can not be over emphasized. A white button-down shirt is the real deal. Its tailored shape brings elegance to both casual and formal ensembles alike.
There really aren't a lot of wardrobe essentials that we lean on more than this statement piece. I know I said that about the basic white tee and maybe a couple of other fashion items, but stay with me here. Okay?
This time I decided to take it up a notch (or I'd like to think that's what I did).
In the first look which is my favorite of the two, I have on an Ankara pinafore over my white button-down shirt. This had me reminiscing on my secondary school days  Funny enough, I couldn't wait to graduate from Junior Secondary just so I could get out of wearing pinafores. Now they're stylish. Yay! Fashion.

For the second look which is…
