Making Ankara Work for Work

Hi guysssss!

How you doing?

Seeing that I almost always wear Ankara, I was somewhat skeptical about doing an Ankara themed post. But, I've realized that common place as it is to me, it isn't the same for everyone else. I've also found out that there are quite a lot of people who love Ankara but still struggle with incorporating it into their daily work style and so on.

Following this, this post on how to make Ankara work for a Monday and a Friday was birthed.

This is the second part of my collaboration with Omon Isinugben of Belois Couture. Catch up on the first one here.

Thankfully, gone are the days when you immediately thought of old and dreary patterns whenever Ankara came to mind. Now, we've seen Ankara become such a vibrant force to be reckoned with in fashion spheres all over the world. We've seen celebrities wear them in ways that are nothing like what our parents and grandparents used to wear in the days of yore.

Slowly but surely, this trend has become so mainstream, it has begun to make its way into even work wear. So, I'm here to show you two ways to make Ankara work for your day-to-day life!

Look 1 - Something for Monday!

Here, I have on an Ankara jacket piece by Belois Couture. Paired with a peach camisole tucked into my blue not-so-tapered-but-not-quite-wide-legged-pants, I would make a sight for sore eyes. Heh! If I may say so myself.

Initially, I played around with styling this jacket with a pair of boyfriend shorts but I wasn't quite sure it created a look that I liked. I might try that again however. So, stick around.

Look 2 - Fringe Fridays!

For the second look which I believe is perfect for a dress down Friday, I have on an Ankara dress with denim details. For a bit of oomph, I added my black fringed sandals!

What do you think? How else do you make Ankara street and/or work friendly? What look is your absolute favorite? Don't leave without leaving us a comment.

1, 2, Ways To Style Your White Button-down Shirt

"Fashion is not necessarily about labels or brands. It's about something else that comes from within you" - Ralph Lauren
I feel the need to apologize in advance for the number of Ankara outfits that you'll find here. After garri (well, any form of swallow really) and soup, my next favorite thing is Ankara, closely followed by retro prints.
In this post, we're styling a basic white button-down shirt in two refreshing ways.
Now, a white button-down shirt is a wardrobe essential. Like a little black dress or a pair of very flattering jeeans, it is a fashion must-have.
It is chic through all seasons, for all ages and it works for about just every event.
For the first look, I tucked my white button-down shirt into an Ankara pencil, midi length skirt for a tailored appeal.
This simple ensemble can work for the office on a Monday or a Friday as the case may be.
Aiming for a more casual feel in the second look, I decided to pair my white button-down shirt with a pair of…

3, 4 Ways To Style Your White Button-down Shirt

"Elegance is not standing out but being remembered"- Giorgio Armani
Because 1, 2 Ways To Style Your White Button-down Shirt was such a favorite, we're back with another one!
It can not be over emphasized. A white button-down shirt is the real deal. Its tailored shape brings elegance to both casual and formal ensembles alike.
There really aren't a lot of wardrobe essentials that we lean on more than this statement piece. I know I said that about the basic white tee and maybe a couple of other fashion items, but stay with me here. Okay?
This time I decided to take it up a notch (or I'd like to think that's what I did).
In the first look which is my favorite of the two, I have on an Ankara pinafore over my white button-down shirt. This had me reminiscing on my secondary school days  Funny enough, I couldn't wait to graduate from Junior Secondary just so I could get out of wearing pinafores. Now they're stylish. Yay! Fashion.

For the second look which is…

Dressing Appropriately for Your Body Type

"The dress should follow the body of a woman, not the body following the shape of the dress" - Hubert de Givenchy
Hello everyone! Long time no see. I'm sorry, life has been, well, life.
Over the months, I've gotten E-mails with questions in the line of "Oh this looks so good, do you think it would look good on me too". Then, there's my friend and flat mate Ehimen who doesn't wear any colors except black because she thinks they''ll make her look big. I thought about these and I decided to put together a little guide to help you dress appropriately for your body type.
Now, essentially, there are four body types; the hour glass, the apple, the banana and the pear.

THE HOURGLASS You know you're hourglass when you're extremely curvy with a tiny waist.
Work towards highlighting your curves and not hiding them. You can achieve this via belts.
For bottoms, wear a lot of pencil skirts and wide-legged pants.

Wrap dresses are perfect.
For tops, …
